During the month of May I committed to myself to move 100 days in a row, then tacked on the challenge of moving 100 miles in the month. At the end of May I was so inspired that I started a Facebook group called 100 Miles Monthly.
I invited friends, friends invited their friends. We have 56 members, from 5 different states. I would say about 20 of them are active daily. Between posting how many miles they moved that day, what their total is and encouraging other in the group, these women are awesome.
It was a worry and a concern of some that it would be a competition. That some might feel discouraged if they fell behind and that those keeping pace or moving ahead, may rub it in others faces. I don’t find that to be true and I am so proud of that. These women have each other’s backs.
Without knowing each other, they like each other’s comments, write words of encouragement and post inspirational messages. I don’t look at it as a competition to who can get to 100 first. We all have to get their in our own ways. I look at it as, people accepting a challenge to move more than they did the month before, more than maybe they thought they could, and maybe pushing themselves just a little bit more because they feel like part of a team.
Yesterday I hit my 100 mile mark for the month, with 6 days to spare. Maybe next month I will set just a little higher goal, 120 or something. I hope that all the women that were so excited in June will continue to be excited and reach for the goal in July as well. This group has been awesome and I would love to see it continue to flourish.
