What Do You Think about Reincarnation?

Reincarnation is the philosophical or religious concept that the soul or spirit, after biological death, can begin a new life in a new body. This doctrine is a central tenet of the Hindu religion. – Wikipedia

Alright, so I hesitate to even write any further on this topic as people will have such strong views one way or another, but I also think that is OK.  I know very little about the idea of reincarnation, either from a religious or educational standpoint.

What I do know is that when I was little I had VERY strong feelings and dreams that lead me to feel like and believe that I had been a turtle in a past life.  Very vivid dreams, that I used to share with my Mom and my sister.  While yes, they did poke fun at me, they also bought into to it.  They supported the thought, even though we were not being raised to believe that reincarnation existed.

I haven’t talked much about this is in what feels like 15 or 20 years, but it is still very much a part of my heart.  I believe that I was a turtle in a past life.  More specifically, I believe that either JFK or Marilyn Monroe owned me.  In the dreams that I had as a kid, they were both there with me.

I know that it sounds crazy, it sound ridiculous or even made up.  I’m OK with sharing it and having most people believe that.  The people that I am closest to in this world (although I’m not sure I’ve ever told Paul, LOL), so maybe I should rephrase the people that I was closest to in the world while these dreams were happening, knew and loved me.

I collected turtles, they were bought for me by everyone for every Holiday or birthday.   They are all over our house, each of the kids has some in their room.  I tried two different times to have a turtle as a pet.  It was very unsuccessful both times and broke my heart.  Turtle tattoos, Turtle Jewelry, Terrapin Beer, Terrapin shirts and stickers.  You name it, I was drawn to and I had it.

In my heart, I still believe these dreams to be true.  Whether they are or not, isn’t the important thing.  I will never be able to prove it. Though when I was young enough to have an open mind about the idea, those dreams were very real and I still believe in them.

Alright, so now tell me what you think?  I believe that I have readers from all faiths, religions and places all over the world, so there has to be someone else who believes in reincarnation?  There also has to be someone who thinks that I am now officially a crazy person and that is OK too!

Happy Tuesday

  1. My stock answer is always “I don’t believe in reincarnation and I didn’t believe in it the last time I was here.” I wonder if maybe I had lived in the time of “Downton Abbey” because of my love of the lifestyle and clothes. I also wonder if I might have been a soldier. I have an intense interest in wars. I grew up in the time of the Vietnam War but I have always been drawn to movies based on wars and history documentaries about wars. I may have been a medic during a war, which could account in my interest in medicine (going back to childhood.)

  2. This post is amazing! I’m not too sure what I believe in. I’m not a follower of Christ or God, but I was raised in a very strict Catholic home, so it’s not that I’m not aware of all the religious theory’s, I just do not believe in any. I do however highly believe that this isn’t our only life and it’s not our last. I believe some dreams and hallucinations are from previous life’s, even our nightmares. Honestly, I guess we will never know until we pass, and even then we probably won’t remember this life we’re living now. Guess it’s true to live your life like its your last.

  3. I may not believe in it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t exist. My motto is always that anything is possible. Anything! And one is never crazy just because they thought of something outside the box. As someone who takes refuge outside the box-I should know.:-)
When I look back at some dreams I keep having every once in a while, I can’t help but wonder if I was a soldier in another life.

  4. I love the picture you used here – the colors and the connectedness. I don’t know for sure about reincarnation, but something about it feels likely. Sometimes I get the feeling I was a man at one time. I’m trying to imagine how this would fit in with my Christian beliefs. I wonder if God sends souls back on missions. Thanks for following, “Anything is Possible.”

  5. Very brave to write about reincarnation – you did a great job of it!
We believe that souls are ‘recycled’ but not usually into animals.

This week’s Funny Friday post happened to be about Death – let me know what you think.
