For the last year, I have been looking forward to when today would arrive. I am headed off to the west side of the state with a couple of my co-workers. We are all presenting at an Early Childhood Conference over the next couple of days.
I instruct (train) early childhood professionals for a living. Usually, the topics and the training’s are completely picked out and written by somebody other than me. These presentations are extra special to me though. For the conference I write my own presentations. Work on the research, the power point, the handouts all on my own.
This year I am doing two presentations. I created one of these presentations for the conference last year and it went so well, that I decided to apply to present that same one again, Preschool Social Studies. That one is on Thursday. The capacity for the room I am presenting in is 100 people.
Then on Friday, I am presenting on Working with Blended Families. Inspired by my own life and working with teachers through this complicated life we lead. This one, is new so I am way more nervous to present it. Who knows if anyone will even be interested in this topic? The capacity for this presentation is 70 people.
My presentations are just a small part of the amount of the time I am at the conference. Each at only 1 hr and 15 minutes, plus the set up and the take down. With one on Thursday and one on Friday, I think I can manage. Plus, my husband is driving out to meet me and will be there sometime after my Friday presentation and spend the rest of the weekend with me.
In the mean time, we will drive 2 1/2 hours to get to our destination of Grand Rapids Michigan. I will have a hotel room to myself and will be able get in some professional development, good food, craft beer and hang out with friends until Sunday.
