OK, so no Lynyrd Skynyrd does NOT start with a Y. However, it does have a lot of unnecessary Y’s in the Band name.
I remember when I was younger (probably a sophomore or junior in high school), I went to best buy to purchase a Lynyrd Skynyrd album. Though I couldn’t find it. My problem was, that like any other person in the world I was look for Leonard. Well that isn’t how they spell it. So, I had to go over to the person who worked at Best Buy for help. They too, had no idea that was how the band name was spelled. Anyway, I eventually ended up with the Greatest Hits album that I wanted.
Due to my experience with the crazy Y’s in the bands name, it seemed only fitting to write about them for Y. (Yes, I am taking some creative liberties here)
Lynyrd Skynyrd is AMAZING!!! I first fell in love with them when the song “Tuesday’s Gone” was in the movie “Dazed and Confused.” That song was on the soundtrack and I knew that there had to be more songs that I needed in my life.
Well, as it turned out there was already a lot of their music in my life, I just hadn’t realized it. Of course I already know the song “Sweet Home Alabama.” I mean, who doesn’t know that song and nearly every word in it?
“Whats Your Name” and “Gimme Three Steps” are songs that I fell in love with from the Greatest Hits album. There is something that I find so entertaining about the song “Gimme Three Steps”, seemingly about a man trying to avoid a bar fight!
“Simple Man”, “Tuesday’s Gone” and of course “Free Bird” are just beautifully written songs. That is all that there is to it. Slow, meaningful and worthy of notice. I leave you with lease lyrics from “Free Bird.”
“Bye, bye, baby, it’s been a sweet love, yeah,
Though this feeling I can’t change.
But please don’t take it so badly,
‘Cause Lord knows I’m to blame.”
Skynyrd was my very fist concert when I was in high school. My parents took me 🙂 That was in ’93! Great band for sure!

I guess Lynyrd Skynyrd could be accused of being a bunch of Ys guys.
