Kindness Challenge: Week 6 Reflection

Written by:

I have been participating in the kindness challenge for 6 weeks now.  Only one week left. If you would like to read about it, do so HERE.

The Kindest person that I know is probably my mother in law.  She was the first person that came to mind when I read this week’s challenge.

She embraces everyone, loves everyone and tries to care for everyone.  Her family looks to her for spiritual guidance and compassion. She has a faith that is everlasting.  Whenever you are feeling down, she lets you know that in God’s time everything will work out.

When we are on the phone, she asks me how I am doing.  Not like everyone else in the world asks you “how are you?”  You know where you start rambling on about what has been happening in your life or you just say fine.  She wants to know about my personal and mental health, how am I doing?

I admire her love and faith in the Lord.  I mean, I have faith too, but it just doesn’t look the same as Mil’s.  I appreciate her ability to embrace everyone just as they are, right where they are.  She has made me feel like part of her family since the beginning.

Paul and I got engaged before I ever had the chance to meet his parents.  They lived in Texas and we lived in Michigan.  His parents were in Europe when we got engaged.  After they returned back to the states, Paul told them the news.  I met them a couple of weeks later when they were in town for another wedding.

That was the only time that I met them before they were in town for our own wedding.  As far as she was concerned or at least as far as I ever knew, I was her family right then.  If Paul loved me, Paul wanted to be with me for the rest of his life, then she would love me.

We had a lot of naysayers in the beginning of our relationship.  You haven’t know each other long enough, this is never going to work out, it will end before it even starts.  My Mother-in-law said to me “the only way you can prove them wrong is to get married and stay married forever.”

I love you Mil.  Thank you for being in my corner.  Thank you for being one of the kindest people I have ever met.
