A to Z Challenge: Z is for led Zeppelin

There was never a doubt that to round out this challenge I would write about Led Zeppelin.

Of course first and foremost there is “Stairway to Heaven.”  This is the first song that I ever remember hearing by them.  When I was younger I used to go to church camp every summer.  There would be a dance at the end of the week that went on for hours and all the girls looked forward to it.  They did this dance called a “snowball.”  The first two people would start slow dancing, then someone would yell snowball, those two people would go get two new people to dance with.  By the end all of the kids would be out on the dance floor.  For this dance, every year, they would play “Stairway to Heaven.”

I couldn’t even tell you when I realized that Led Zeppelin was who sang it.  Then as life went on, I realized that Led Zeppelin was responsible for all these different songs that I knew.

When I was like 23 or 24, I went to the bar with some friends.  It was karaoke night and one of the guys sang “Whole Lotta Love.”  I think of him singing every time I hear that song. Which is one of my two favorite songs by Zeppelin.

“You’ve been learnin’, baby, I’ve been yearnin’,
All them good times, baby, baby, I’ve been yearnin’,
Way, way down inside honey, you need it,
I’m gonna give you my love… I’m gonna give you my love.”

My next favorite song is “Ramble On.”  Something about the beat of this song, I get so into it.  The way that the music and the lyrics flow, it is the best.

“Ramble On, And now’s the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I’m goin’ ’round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I’ve been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.”

Of course with other amazing songs like “All My Love”, “Kashmir”, “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” and “Dazed and Confused”, Zeppelin is easily one of the Greatest Bands that ever was!

My last memory of Zeppelin comes from “The Christmas with all the Boxed Sets”.  A CD boxed set came out, I don’t know maybe sometime around 1998 or so and there were 3 of them given from different people, to different people at our family Christmas.  My Dad and 2 of my uncles received it.  That was when I knew that I needed to start appreciating them and their music.  I started borrowing my Dads CDs then.
